Good morning Longbranch.
My drive this morning was a wet slog, not much different from most of last night — and even through this morning — when the floodgates of heaven swung open, creating a mid-summer deluge.
“Look at the raindrops pelting the deck,” my lovely bride said last night as we sat in the family room, transfixed by the downpour. “That is so cool.”
But really, cool it is not. The current temperature is 60 degrees and the weather geeks are saying our high today may top 72. That is but a couple degrees shy of a sauna bathhouse. This weather pattern may continue through Friday, but things will dry up a bit this weekend. It may even get considerably warmer, around the low 80s say the geeks.
And so begins our summer.
And in a nod to fiscally astute individuals, I give you this day in history:
This day in 1981 in Mountain Home, Idaho, Virginia Campbell took her coupons and rebates and bought $26,460 worth of groceries. She only paid 67 cents after all the discounts.
“I don’t know what’s more impressive, the fact that she got it for practically free, or the fact that she needed $24,460 worth of groceries!” writes yumsugar.com.
